The recent Tennessee flooding of the Cumberland River has extensively damaged parts of Nashville, such as the Opryland Hotel flooding. Right across from the Grand Ole Opry itself, is the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, of which the Opryland Hotel is a part. Heavy damage has also been done to the home of country music. The repairs might take more than just a little instant cash.
Opryland Hotel Flooding
A heavy part of Nashville tourism was damaged with the Opryland Hotel flooding. The Gaylord Opryland Resort is a large complex which the Opryland Hotel sits in. The site houses a luxury hotel, convention center and other recreational amenities. Tennessee unemployment is expected to shoot through the roof, and it isn’t known how many are out of work because of the floods. Guests of the Opryland Hotel were evacuated several days ago.
Grand Ole Opry
Right across the way from the Opryland Hotel and Resort sits the Grand Ole Opry, the heart and soul of country music. The Grand Ole Opry House was damaged by the flooding, and upcoming concerts have been moved to different venues, according to CNN. The last time the Grand Ole Opry moved a concert was in 1975, also due to the Cumberland River flooding. It’s the home of country music, and it is been viciously damaged by the flooding of the Cumberland River.
What comes next?
It would appear that recovery from the flooding will take quite a while. The Cumberland flows right through downtown Nashville, and it’s not just the tourism industry that is affected. The Opryland Hotel flooding has closed a huge employer and provider of services for the moment, and has also damaged a national landmark. The waters are going to start receding, but that will only start to reveal just how bad the damage is.
